‘Comedians are earning well’

Kapil Sharma is happy to see comedians ‘finally get the respect’ they always deserved

With comedy shows reigning the tube, actor-comedian Kapil Sharma (right) says he is glad the genre has made a place for itself in the industry.

“Yeh achi baat hai ki India mein comedians kama rahein hain (It’s great to see that in India, comedians are earning well). It didn’t happen earlier. There would be shows with different characters and in between, a comedian would be called as a filler. But now, comedy is getting respect,” says Kapil.

Talking about the challenges, he says all that’s required is for one to be observant. “You need to observe people and give your best. When you notice new things, these will give you content to talk about. Of course, there is no alternative to hard work. It’s important to be focussed on your work. There will always be elements that will distract you, but you should not lose focus,” he says.

Meanwhile along with his ongoing comedy show, The Kapil Sharma Show, he has a few other projects lined up as well. “There are a few things in production. I’m also making a film — a satire on the education system,” he says. “I don’t like to plan too much. There are some things which must be left to fate. Abhi tak bhi mere saath sab acha hua hai and aage bhi acha hi hoga (So far, only good things have happened to me, and I’m sure that will continue),” he adds.
