‘Women now shown in a positive light’
Actor Kareena Kapoor
Khan (left), who has been in Bollywood since 2000, when she debuted with Refugee, says she’s glad that now, women are seen in a progressive way in films.
“The roles are being written by young directors, who are successful in highlighting the personality of women who are hardworking and successful. Women are portrayed in a more progressive manner,” says Kareena, whose last film was Udta Punjab in 2016. The 36-year-old welcomed her first child, Taimur Ali Khan, in December last year, and is currently working on her fitness before she begins work on her next film, Veere Di Wedding, alongside Sonam Kapoor and Swara Bhaskar. Talking about balancing work and motherhood, Kareena says, “I’ve always maintained a personal and professional life, but now it’s more difficult as Taimur is too young. I try to strike a balance. I have a great support system with (husband) Saif [Ali Khan] and my family.”
The actor believes that modern Indian women play diverse roles in their lives, and she is one of them. “I’m proud to be a married, independent and a working woman. I carry that with great pride. Despite being married, I work and have my own identity,” she says.
Meanwhile, there’s buzz in the industry that Kareena has signed a biopic by Omung Kumar, another movie with Salman Khan and Karan Johar’s next. However, the actor chooses to stay mum about her future projects.
