HOLLYWOOD BOLLYWOOD TELEVISION I’VE NOT BEEN ONLY A SWARA

The actor feels that her Bollywood career is a fair balance between lead and non lead roles

Actor Swara Bhaskar (right) might not have played the quintessential Bollywood heroine roles, but she is happy and content with the way her career in the industry has panned out.

The actor, who has mostly portrayed the role of a female lead’s friend in films such as Tanu Weds Manu Part 1 and 2, Raanjhanaa, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, has no qualms about the choices she made. Also, with films such as Nil Battey Sannata and Anaarkali of Aarah in her kitty, Swara feels that her career has been a fair balance between the lead and non-lead work.

“I know that the out-andout commercial films I did were mainly in supporting roles. But I did a film called Listen… Amaya (2013) where I played the lead and another good film, Machhli Jal Ki Rani Hai, which didn’t do well at the box office. So, I never saw myself as someone who has only been a side actor,” says Swara.

The actor feels that while most actors would crave to play the lead, she will not reject a good role because it’s not the lead. “It’s the basic tendency of an artist to expect to play the role of Romeo or Juliet. And they feel, if they don’t do that, they aren’t actors. But, I believe in ‘never say never’ because a few of my favourite parts that I played in films have been supporting roles. They were non-lead parts but I loved them,” says Swara, referring to her role as Bindiya in Raanjhanaa to be closest to her.
