Anushka Sharma thrives on diverse roles

The actor’s goal is to continue playing characters that are ‘different in physical and emotional appearance’

From playing the spirited girl-next-door in films such as Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008) and Band Baaja Baaraat (2010) to showcasing her action avatar in NH10 (2015), being the innocent ghost in Phillauri (2017), and a scary witch in Pari this year — Anushka Sharma has done it all. The actor takes pride in saying that experimenting with roles has been a mainstay in her career from the start.

“I have always tried to experiment with my roles. This year [too], I am doing films in which my characters are very different from one another in terms of physical and emotional appearance. So, when you get to do that, you feel great,” she said at a recent event.

Anushka’s upcoming Bollywood projects include Zero, alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif; and Sui Dhaaga, which also stars Varun Dhawan.

Answering a volley of questions about a wide range of topics, the actorproducer also shared her thoughts on the ordinance to introduce death penalty for rapists of children, after the nationwide uproar on Kathua and Unnao rape cases.

“I was deeply hurt and affected by the incident. Even now, when I think or talk about it, I feel disgusted and extremely emotional. I feel the most severe punishment should be served to those who spoil something as innocent as a child because it’s the worst thing that a human being can do,” said Anushka.
