‘I’D LOVE TO DO A FILM WITH ALIA’

Right from the start, Bollywood has seen numerous multi-hero films, but projects led by more than one heroine have been extremely rare. Also, it has long been an industry belief that two female actors are unlikely to gel well. Clearly, Katrina Kaif doesn’t fall in the same category. In fact, the Tiger Zinda Hai (2017) actor readily says that she is extremely fond of Alia Bhatt and that she “would love to do a film with her”. “I think [teaming up with Alia] would be amazing. Not many know, but I’ve been telling Adi (Aditya Chopra, filmmaker) for the longest time that someone should make a great, big-budget and lavishly mounted film starring two girls with strong characters. I really hope he does something like that and I would love to do such a movie with Alia. I have a strong feeling that it would do amazingly well [at the box office],” says Katrina.

In a recent interview, Alia said that she had “made a pact with Kat and Deepika Padukone that we will do films together”. Katrina responds with a smile, “As far as I’m concerned, there is no pact or anything like that with Deepika in terms of working together.”

Katrina has been shooting with Shah Rukh Khan for Aanand L Rai’s next film, Zero, and “amazing” is the word she has for the experience. She says, “This is my first film with Aanand sir and it’s been nothing less than amazing. He really helps you as an actor to carve out your character. Aanand sir is absolutely clear and specific about what he’s looking for but he also knows how to push you [as an actor] since he wants you to search for something within yourself. I really appreciate his vision and his style of working.”

Adding that she is always on the lookout for “different parts”, Katrina emphasises that “you just can’t be on the repeat mode all the time”.

“Honestly, that’s what I am trying to do. I want to push myself and work in good spaces where the director has experience as well as knowledge of the craft and vision to help you push yourself,” says the actor, adding, “After all, acting isn’t a solo journey; it is a director’s vision, of which you are a part. So, I want to team up with people who’ll help me find and create better characters, and add more to the parts I play.”

Workwise, Katrina will next be seen in Thugs of Hindostan alongside Aamir Khan; Zero co-starring Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma; and Remo D’Souza’s dance film along with Varun Dhawan.
