Dheeraj Dhoopar is grateful for role variety

- Shreya Mukherjee

Several actors have openly voiced their displeasure about getting repetitive roles and how once a character they have portrayed becomes popular, makers approach them with identical parts. However, this is not a concern for Dheeraj Dhoopar. The actor, who played Prem in Sasural Simar Ka, insists that till date, all his roles have been different.

“For any actor, it’s important not to restrict oneself to any particular genre or character. In my case, I feel lucky that all my shows and the roles I played in them, are different — be it Ansh Tripathi in Maat Pitaah Ke Charnon Mein Swarg, who was the youngest brother studying abroad, or event manager Bhavesh Patel in Behenein, or business tycoon Prem in Sasural Simar Ka, or my current show where I play a cricketer. So, getting typecast has never been a concern for me [to worry about],” he says.

Dheeraj, who will soon complete a decade in the TV industry, gets nostalgic talking about his earlier shows.

“I only have gratitude and feel blessed every time I think about the kind of opportunities I have got as an actor. All the characters I have played have helped me grow as an artist. But if you ask me the one role that made me a household name, then it should be Prem. I just hope that I continue to do good work. At the same time, it feels good that the audience now identifies me as Dheeraj and not just through my characters,” he adds.
