Dad doesn’t advise me much: Ram Charan
When one’s father is superstar Chiranjeevi, there’s bound to be pressure to live up to the legacy. But actor Ram Charan has never let that perturb him. High on the success of his Telugu film Rangasthalam, the 33year-old says he works “well under pressure”, and the expectations make him more responsible. “It’s inevitable, I can’t escape the pressure. Though it might look like pressure to others, for me, it’s actually the other way round. This expectation actually pushes me to do better and helps me stay grounded,” he says.
Considering his vast experience, does his father advise him ? “Trust me, he does not give me much advice. Though I would love to have these conversations with him,” says the actor who made his Bollywood debut with Zanjeer (2013) costarring Priyanka Chopra.
However, Ram Charan shares that he has learned a lot from the veteran actor by observing him. “I guess his success only comes from his discipline to sustain for 40 odd years and 150 films. Every character he played, he managed to understand it differently. Overall, if you see the journey of Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth or people in that league, they have sustained for long and you will understand that it’s because they were disciplined and dedicated. I think we’ll have to understand that aspect of their journey. And that’s how I feel whatever [advice] he wanted to give me, he has given me,” says the Telugu film actor, who’s latest hit Rangasthalam, directed by Sukumar, is now being dubbed in other languages such as Hindi and Tamil.
“It feels great. Every time a film does well, it helps the industry and opens new platforms. We are looking at a pan India release. Cinema lover of every state should be able to watch such films. If there is a demand, then that should be fulfilled. And not just in India, we are also planning to take it to China and see how people respond to the film,” he says.
