Five trends highlighted by DeepVeer wedding
Prerna Gauba
The much-awaited wedding of Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh was solemnised on November 14-15 in Italy with not many in attendance. As the couple tied the knot, back in the country fans and paparazzi waited for pictures of the couple on social media. Once the pictures came out, we found trends coming into being for brides and grooms. Here are five such trends:
COLOUR COORDINATED CLOTHES
Lately, we have seen couples matching their clothes and even the invitees are given a theme so that everyone is coordinated. For DeepVeer, coordinating clothes continued after the wedding too. The couple was seen in the same colour kurtachuridar when they landed in India. While Deepika teamed it with a red dupatta, Ranveer went for a pink Nehru jacket. “The speciality of colour coordination or motif coordination or even textile coordination is that when the couple stands together they look like one subject and everything else becomes the background. This subtle coordination looks magical and helps get fabulous pictures,” says fashion designer Rahul Mishra.
GROOMS WEARING RED
ed is the go-to colour for brides. But, anveer Singh broke all stereotypes by matching his sherwani with Deepika’s ed ensemble. “Wearing red is a gender qual belief. Ranveer Singh is one of the w who can pull off red. Even though red s a tricky colour, I believe in ‘never say ever’. Men in India are experimenting ith colours when it comes to fashion nd it is possible that red becomes a colour for grooms,” says fashion designer Nikhil Mehra.
PLATINUM RINGS
Usually diamonds and solitaires are encrusted in white gold rings. But, Deepika-Ranveer and even Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas went for platinum rings. Reportedly, Deepika’s wedding ring cost around ₹2 crore. “It is a personal choice and whatever the couple chooses is right. Platinum is contemporary and unique, while gold is cliché. It can be a definite trend,” says jewellery designer Eina Ahluwalia.
DUPATTA WITH PRINTED BLESSINGS
On the wedding day, Deepika’s dupatta on her head said ‘saubhagyavati bhava’ which is a blessing for married couple wishing them good luck. “It is one of the most beautiful thought. This makes the dupatta an heirloom piece that one would cherish and carry down for generations. Young girls have noticed and appreciated it so all the couples who like traditional or want something traditional would like to go for it,” says fashion designer Reynu Taandon.
RESTRICTING SOCIAL MEDIA AND PHOTOGRAPHY
DeepVeer made sure they were the first ones to post their images on social media as everybody else was barred from posting pictures. “While on one hand there are people who create hashtags, on the other people want to restrict to posting nothing online. I have done weddings that were private and e-invites said ‘no photography’ or ‘no social media’. The couple wants to have the right to share images and filter down what goes online,” says wedding planner Radhika Kochhar.
