TV actor Ashnoor Kaur, who most recently played actor Sanjay Dutt’s sister in his biopic Sanju, says the reason she has rejected most shows so far is that the makers want her to portray characters way older than herself.

Ashnoor, who has shows such as Jhansi Ki Raani and Saath Nibhana Saathiya to her credit, says, “I have got many offers for different shows. One of the major reasons I left many shows is because they wanted to show me above the age of 18. I don’t want to do that — I am 14! I want to play my age. My parents also decided that. Thankfully, I got the show Patiala Babes, where I get to play a character my age,” she says.

Patiala Babes, which airs on Sony Entertainment Television, revolves around a mother-daughter relationship. Ashnoor, who plays the daughter, reveals that she was drawn to the plot. “I call my mother ‘babes’ out of affection and love, in the show. This was relatable. I feel Indian television has depicted this relationship as a formal one, whereas it’s the opposite in reality. A mother is a girl’s first best friend. We have tried to show the fun the two have in real life,” says the teenage actor.

Talking about the bond she shares with her mother in real life, she says she aspires to send her mother back to teaching, which she quit to focus on Ashnoor and her career, much like what her character does in the show. “Every woman has the potential to do something on her own. After marriage they usually tend to focus on household chores. I, eventually, will start going out for work on my own, so I want her to pursue something and not sit at home,” Ashnoor says.
