He’s the man behind two of the biggest chartbusters last year — Aankh Maare from Simmba, and Dilbar from Satyameva Jayate, but music composer Tanishk Bagchi clarifies that contrary to the notion, recreating a popular song isn’t easy.

“There’s a difference between remixing and recreating,” he says, adding that, “When you remix, you retain the original voice and add a beat behind it, to which you can dance. I started my career with original songs, my first opportunity to recreate a song came with Humma Humma for OK Jaanu (2017). There was no similarity with the original. I brought down the tempo. These songs then started playing at clubs to make people dance and entertain them.”

Tanishk then goes on to explain how his recreations give these old songs a new lease of life. “There are so many songs that aren’t heard and are just kept there. Everybody knows Aankh Maare is a song from the film Tere Mere Sapney (1996). But nobody ever played that song, Bollywood retro mein bhi nahi bajta tha. I am trying to bring it all back,” says the singer, who has a slew of projects lined up next.

“I have a lot of films lined up, and talks are on about another film with Shah Rukh Khan. However, nothing has been finalised,” he concludes.
