We live in a time where only talent will sustain, says Radhika

- Pooja Sharma

Radhika Madan is glad that her hard work is paying off. Even though her Bollywood debut, Pataakha, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj didn’t resonate at the box office, the critics lauded her performance. Now, she is happy that film-makers are taking note of her talent. “I’ve a few announcements to make this month and exciting things are coming up,” says Radhika. Excerpts:

Were you happy with the offers after Pataakha?

I got such a great response from the people in the industry. So, life has kind of changed and I am getting good roles but I cannot reveal what roles just yet.

From television to films, how has your journey been?

The journey is the same. I’ve auditioned for a few films. It is not that things fall into my lap, but yes, I get the opportunity to at least audition with great production houses. Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota (MKDNH) was actually my first film. So for that, things were difficult and challenging. But after Pataakha, I am still auditioning. I think I am grinding through stuff.

Your next, MKDNH has been well received at film festivals. Did you expect this reaction?

Honestly, I actually didn’t expect anything. We just made it because we believed in it. It’s a new concept and we had fun making it. We were overwhelmed when it was selected for Toronto Film Festival and won an award. It’s been received well internationally. Although, we are sceptical about whether the Indian audiences will like it or not, we got good feedback so, fingers crossed!

Do plum roles still veer towards star kids?

They do have the access; I won’t deny that at all. But we are in a time where only talent will sustain. In fact, I prefer auditioning for roles. I just go after their life and tell makers to decide whatever they want to do after seeing the audition. Sometimes, you actually land up getting the role. You should just believe in yourself. I never think about not trying for something just because there is a chance of someone else getting it. I will give my best. There is interesting content being made today, so there is no need to pull others down.
