Sonam K Ahuja stands out with her choice of roles

Sonam K Ahuja stands out with her choice of roles. For instance, with Neerja, which was one of the most profitable films of 2016, Sonam established herself as an actor whose work resonated with the Gen X audience. Neerja won her accolades and a National award and Sonam was lauded for being able to carry such a mammoth film on her shoulders. Last year, she again stood out in her pivotal roles in PadMan and Veere Di Wedding (VDW). While PadMan was a film which gave out a social message, VDW became of the first Bollywood film to be headlined by leading contemporary female stars.

Touted as one of 2018’s most profitable female star with the highest opening week and total week figures, Sonam starts 2019 with a bang as the rave reviews pour in for her performance in Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, which opened to an encouraging `15 crore weekend.

“With the spunk to take on progressive roles and not shy away from the unconventional, Sonam has fast become the face of social change representing the voice of young India,” says Vajir Singh, editor Box Office India.

“Sonam is on a roll not only because of her bankability at the box office but also because of her brave choice of films and scripts. She is making a conscious effort to pick subjects and roles that break stereotypes or have a positive message to send out. After hits like Sanju, Pad Man and Veere Di Wedding, last year, it looks like 2019 is also going to be her year,” says a trade analyst.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh adds, “The choices that Sonam has been making are very good. On one hand, she is doing films like Raanjhanaa (2013), Neerja and Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga and then she had also done films such as like Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo (2015). So, she has been balancing her choices of attempting different genres very well, and has improved her craft and evolved as an actor.”
