Sooraj Barjatya doesn’t want to remake any of his films

-

Sooraj Barjatya’s directorial debut, Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), which catapulted actor Salman Khan to stardom, will complete 30 years this year. The cult hit has become a part of Indian pop culture and is often referenced in films and TV.

Asked if he would like to remake it or any of his other films, Barjatya says, “I don’t think I would be able to remake any of my films because that is a part of my life that I have already lived. If someone is inspired and can give it (Barjatya’s films) their perspective, then it’s okay.”

On the subject of Maine Pyar Kiya’s anniversary, he says, “Nothing special has been planned to celebrate it.”

The filmmaker will soon reunite with Salman for another movie. “We wanted to start our film together earlier but Hum Chaar (Barjatya’s upcoming film) came up. My younger son, Avnish, also wants to become a director. Last year, we (Barjatya and his son) spent a lot of time working on the script. The launch of his film will happen this year. Once his script is done, then I will start working on my film with Salman.”

So, there’s still time, he shares, adding, “Whatever it is, it will be a special film with Salman.”
