Rhea says the industry has treated her like they would have anybody else

It took six years but Rhea Chakraborty finally feels at home in Bollywood. The Jalebi (2018) actor says the Hindi film industry has “treated her well”.

“It’s like they would treat anybody else, there’s no special badge. At the same time, there’s no special attention, and you are as good as your last film in the industry. After its release if it does well, they talk to you more, and the other way round, too,” says Rhea.

And how has life been since her Bollywood debut in 2013 with Mere Dad Ki Maruti? Rhea says it’s like how people would behave in normal life. “Overall, people in the industry are just people, whether it’s the biggest directors or actors. Everyone is looking at something, and trying to get passionate about telling a story, that’s what binds people within the fraternity. I have actually met some amazing people here, who I otherwise might have not known. It’s after I met them that I got to know, oh these guys are actually cool and amazing,” says Rhea, who is currently working on a film down south.

Rhea, who has appeared in films such as Sonali Cable (2014) and Bank Chor (2017), says her criteria of saying yes to a film has changed from how it used to be earlier.

“It’s changed hundred percent, because even the industry has changed, from the earlier positioning of who’s producing the film, now, it’s good content. Everyone talks about the script — we’re realising its high worth now. The pressure is off ki ‘inhi logon ke saath film karni hai, this is the hero’ and all. These things haven’t held true for me for the last one-two years. You get challenged as an actor, and it becomes simpler and nicer. I am happy that I am an actor at such a time,” Rhea ends.
