Arrange marriage is a big no-no: says Kriti Sanon

Actor Kriti Sanon is one of the most eligible single actors in the industry. So, when she stars in a film that explores the idea of living-in with a partner before marriage — Luka Chuppi — one is bound to ask her questions like if she’d be up for a live-in in real life.

The actor says there is “nothing wrong” with such a setup, but she might not go for it herself. Why, you ask? Well, the same reason as many people don’t — the parents. Talking about live-ins, Kriti, who stars with Kartik Aryan in the film, says, “I think it’s absolutely fine and there is nothing wrong in it. In today’s day and age, I feel it’s very important to know the person with whom you are going to spend your life. And if you feel that by living-in with that person for some time you might know things better and might be able to make a better decision, then there is nothing wrong about it.”

But would she herself go that route? She says, “The kind of family that I come from, I know that my parents won’t be okay with it. I do respect that and I feel they have given me enough freedom to get to know the person who I want to be with. I have the freedom to go on a holiday or getting to know the person, and there’s no pressure on me.”

However, an arranged marriage isn’t for her. “I feel, to marry someone I need to be in love with that person. Also, I need to know the person in and out. It is something that needs to come from within... That ‘this is the one I’d spend the rest of my life with’ because arrange marriage is a big no-no, which I have clearly told my parents,” says the Raabta (2017) actor.

I know that my parents won’t be okay with it. I do respect that and I feel they have given me enough freedom to get to know the person who I want to be with, and to even travel with... There’s no pressure on me.
