‘I just don’t want to play the love interest’

- Pooja Sharma

Bipasha Basu Singh Grover’s next is a thriller with husband, actor Karan Singh Grover. The actor, who took a sabbatical after marriage (in April, 2016), wanted to be sure of the project before signing it. She doesn’t want to act in a film just for the sake of it.

“I am selective about films that I’m doing. You enter this industry when you’re like a little girl and then you grow up into a woman. And there’s natural selection definitely. There are a lot of films where I don’t fit in anymore. And, there are a lot of films which are very interesting that I can be selective about,” says the Jism (2003) actor.

“I want to do roles where I suit the part and that’s something that’s going to excite me now,” says Bipasha, adding that she is looking forward to do a dance number in a film.

“I would want to do a number on the lines of Beedi or a Namak

Ishq (Omkara; 2006).

Just playing the love interest and being present in the film, is not what I would want to do,” she adds.

Bipasha has carved a niche for herself in the horror genre. After acting in films such as Raaz (2002), Creature 3D (2014) and Alone (2015), the actor is no mood to sign another horror movie. “They were all amazing. But I feel that we need bigger names — directors and actors — who need to come out and do justice to this exciting genre on the big screen,” says Bipasha, who feels it is still an underexplored terrain.

“Horror still remains as one of the underrated genres in Bollywood. It’s an exciting genre but still not being tapped enough,” she says.

I would want to do a number on the lines of Beedi or a Namak Ishq (Omkara; 2006). Just playing the love interest and being present in the film, is not what I would want to do.
