Sarah Silverman calls out doctor for ‘uncomfortable’ mammogram
Actor Sarah Silverman is urging women to speak up against uncomfortable mammogram experiences, following an incident where a doctor used his bare hands to examine her.
The Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018) star underwent a mammogram, X-ray, and ultrasound on Wednesday. She revealed that the appointment quickly went downhill because the radiologist did not put on gloves before examining her.
“He opened my gown and put gel on my breasts and smeared it around with his bare hands. Then he started talking to me about my chest X-ray... and was pontificating with my b**bs just out and covered in gel and cold, and finally I said, ‘Hey, can we either talk about this when I’m dressed or while your doing the ultrasound?’ I’m not comfortable with my breasts out just shooting the s**t with you,” the actor wrote in an Instagram post.
Silverman insists she doesn’t believe the radiologist was inappropriate, but feels he should have been more sensitive. “It’s uncomfortable and too easy to think it’s all in your head. And arrogant fucks like this doctor take advantage of women’s socialised instinct to not speak up... Trust that thing in your gut that tells you this shit ain’t right,” she added.
