Congratulate Neeti Mohan on her new single and her impending wedding, and she cracks up as she says, “I have a new single, but I am not single any more”. The thrill and exhilaration in Neeti’s voice is quite evident as she can’t stop smiling. Neeti is set to tie the knot with Nihar Pandya on February 15, just a day after Valentine’s Day.

“I am really going through mixed emotions, but there is a lot of excitement too. I am so looking forward to it because to be very honest, I never felt like getting married until I met Nihar,” says Neeti, days before her wedding, adding, “I used to think marriage was a waste of time and energy. This feeling was there because I always saved up my entire energy and gave all the importance in my life to music. But my father used to always tell me, ‘I really appreciate your passion for music, but a good life is when you balance your personal and professional lives’. He recently told me, ‘Now that you have reached the peak of your career, now when you take up new roles in your personal life, you will grow and learn to manage more’. So, I would always tell him, whenever the time is right, we will talk about it. All this while I was so happy and I never thought that I missed out on being married or anything.”

But Neeti says that when one is in love, nothing is really a conscious decision anymore, and just like that, she decided to get married. “When you meet the right person, you don’t calculate anything anymore. You just ask the question that, is this feeling right for everybody?

To me, my family and to him and his, the answer was yes, so this was meant to be. It is when you start feeling like this, that is when you decide, okay let’s do it,” she says.

Neeti’s mehendi and sangeet ceremony will take place on February 14, followed by the wedding ceremony on February 15, in Taj Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad. She says it was not really a planned move to get married on the Valentine’s Day weekend. “To be very honest, I had to match the schedule of all my sisters and Shakti’s [Mohan; dancer] dance reality show just got over, and we had to wait for

. And , she was e me at least 10 days to choreograph the sangeet (laughs). So we literally saw the next best date and tried to keep it towards the weekend so that everybody can just make time for it,” says Neeti.

The singer who has sung hits such as Jiya Re (Jab Tak Hai Jaan; 2011) and more recently, Kaun Nachdi (Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety; 2018), released a single titled, Kithe Reh Gaya, a few weeks ago. Ask her if she would be taking a break now to settle into her marital life, and she says, “I wish I could, but I think people like me are more excited to work after marriage, because I want to continue being an artiste. That’s who I am and I have always loved being busy and I love my life. So, I just want this beautiful addition of marriage to balance out my life. I want to work as much as I was working earlier.”
