I was in a very miserable state — monetarily, socially, emotionally. I was giving a lot of auditions. I used to get shortlisted too, but never got finalised.

Playing the titular role in a leading TV show, Krishna Bharadwaj might be in a happy space, professionally, but the actor reveals it wasn’t always this way for him. There was a time when he went in a dark phase because he was not getting work for four years. And he had to “struggle really hard to stay strong”, till his latest show happened in 2017.
“I was out of work for four continuous years and I was in a very miserable state — monetarily, socially, emotionally. I was giving a lot of auditions. I used to get shortlisted too, but never got finalised. I was struggling during those years and slowly started to get frustrated and reached the verge of slipping into depression. Nothing was making me happy and I could not even sleep peacefully,” says the actor, confessing that there came a point when he though his “career as an actor will soon be over”.
He goes on to say that his family and friends were always by his side during this tough phase and would constantly motivate him and their support helped him sail through. Another thing that helped him was his writing. “I kept myself occupied writing plays, short films. I wrote for my Gujarati film and shot it immediately, and it got released soon after. It was a huge hit but those four years were a real struggle for me,” says the actor, adding that he tries and keeps himself “busy with work, my writing and reading. These are the best ways to cope up with all negative thoughts.”
Known for shows such as Jasuben Jayantilal Joshi Ki Joint Family, Krishna shares that his current show has not just helped him grow as an actor but also added to his fame and he feels lucky that he got the opportunity to play the main lead. “For my [ongoing] show I have been constantly shaving my head… it was difficult initially to see myself in that look, but now I have got used to it,” he adds.
