Wrong to call TV content regressive, feels Juhi Parmar

The small screen has come under much criticism for being regressive, and pandering to superstitions and myth. However, actor Juhi Parmar feels it is rather unfair that such a scrutiny is placed on Indian television while the whole world is lapping up fantasy and mythical shows.

“I personally love the supernatural and horror genre, and it hasn’t been explored much on TV before. And now many such shows are being made. Such films are also being made, for example, Stree (2018). So, why pull down television and say that it is regressive? It does not make any sense. There is nothing wrong with such shows,” says the actor, who herself is a part of a supernatural show.

The actor rose to fame playing the lovable bahu, Kumkum, on TV, but she branched out later and has dabbled in comedy, reality, mythology, and supernatural shows as well.

“The fun about being an actor is to try and do different genres, and that way you will not feel repetitive and bored. I have tried all the genres and the only thing left for me to do is action,” Juhi laughs. Other than her TV assignments, Juhi also keeps herself busy with tarot reading and is, in fact, a certified tarot reader.
