She has had a very eventful past few months. And Tahira Kashyap, who successfully trumped breast cancer in that period, is all ready at the end of it to make her directorial debut.

It is a wee bit soon to ask, but how soon does she — herself not completely a stranger to the industry — look forward to directing husband, actor Ayushmann Khurrana, in a film? “I really respect him as an actor. I keep telling that as a husband he can do better but as an actor, he is really good,” she says with a laugh.

“He is a senior in the industry. I need to prove my mettle (as a filmmaker) before I direct him. I would love to direct him because he is a fabulous actor. It will be an absolute pleasure to work with an actor who gives his all. I know how he creatively works. He discusses his script, his characters and he adds a lot to his characters, dialogues and nuances,” adds Tahira.

Her first project is currently in pre-production, and the writer is enjoying every bit of the filmmaking process. “It is going on very well. It is a script which is very close to my heart. The story is women-centric but not in a grand way. It is going to be entertaining, quirky and a lot of fun. The film is very close to my life and my heart. I am most kicked about it. It is my third baby,” informs Tahira, adding that the film will go on floors and release this year itself.

She is the third in the family, after husband Ayushmann and brother-in-law Aparshakti Khurana, to enter the film industry. Are their conversations going to change any bit now? “Well it is great isn’t it? We don’t meet that often because we are all so busy. Once we do, we love films so, we talk about our respective work among other things as well,” Tahira ends.
