Contributions pour in for soldiers’ fund
It has been five days since the Pulwama terror attack shook the nation and citizens have shown solidarity not only by condemning the attack, which killed over 40 CRPF personnel, but also with financial contributions.
Donations poured in on Bharatkeveer.gov.in — a website where people can contribute for families of slain personnel of central armed paramilitary forces — BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, NDRF, NSG, SSB and Assam Rifles.
As soon as the account was opened by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, India got together to contribute, helping the website meet the ₹15 lakh crowdfunding target for each family affected by the terror attack. The ministry confirmed 82,716 people contributed ₹18.38 crore in the last four days.
It was also reported that some fraudsters were soliciting contributions from people through other accounts and “it has been advised people desirous of supporting families of martyrs of CAPFs should only contribute through the bharatkeveer.gov.in”, a government report said.
While contributions by actors Akshay Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan and sports personalities such as Virender Sehwag and Vijender Singh have already made headlines, the latest to come forward are actor Salman Khan and singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh.
Minister of State for Home, Kiren Rijiju, tweeted thanking Salman for “offering to contribute for Pulwama Martyrs through BEING HUMAN FOUNDATION.”
Private money transfer service Paytm is also helping raise funds and Diljit shared a snapshot of his ₹300,000 contribution, through the service, on social media.
