I am not really scared of making mistakes: Kriti
She had her last film release, Bareilly Ki Barfi (BKB; 2017), almost two years back. Although Kriti Sanon hasn’t had a film in between, the Delhi girl is in no hurry to lap up projects. In fact, she credits BKB for adding to her confidence levels. “When the film got appreciated, I was like, ‘okay, I can do something different and I would love to do it again’. All of that has added further to my personality. I feel a little more assured when I talk to people now and even while I am taking any decision,” says the actor, as she readies for the release of her next film, Luka Chuppi. Excerpts:
This is your fifth year in Bollywood. Are you absolutely sorted by now?
Can you be sorted ever? But yes, now, I am not scared of making mistakes. I just need to be sure of the reason why I say yes to a film and as long as I know that, it’s fine. I won’t have any regrets. There’s no formula to doing a good or a hit film, but you can be sure if you come across some interesting stuff, something that you haven’t done before or people that you would love to work with. There is always a different reason to a do a film. The journey is way more important than the destination. So, you have to be satisfied and happy while you are at it. For me, that’s more important than what happens on a Friday.
So, there is no Kriti 2.0 yet?
Honestly, I don’t want to change. But I am growing for sure, and becoming a better version of myself, albeit slowly. I obviously want to be more experienced and become a little more open as a person. It has started to happen already. Before entering the industry, I lived a protected life, so there was only so much that I knew. I used to be stubborn vis-à-vis my opinions. But now, I have become more adjusting and open. Earlier, there was a very strong sense of right and wrong, morally. But when you get to know so many people, you realise that everything doesn’t have to be black and white; it can be grey, too. I have that maturity now.
You have four films releasing in 2019. Do you want to continue taking up work at this pace?
I can’t. That’s a lot of pressure. A star like Akshay Kumar has reached that point in his career. There are a lot of male actors who are doing many films in a year. I’d also love to do that but I don’t want to do a film just for the heck of it. I don’t want to make a mistake because I don’t want to be the person who is either cribbing on the set or feels, ‘mujhe nahi jaana aaj shoot pe’. Having said that, maybe, there aren’t as many opportunities in front of me, as I would like to have, but I really hope that happens.
