IS PRIYA DATING ROSHAN? ‘I’DLETTHERUMOURSBE’
Priya Prakash Varrier neither denies nor accepts that she is dating her co-star Roshan Abdul Raoof
Kunal Kemmu began his acting career when he was really young and continued to prove his mettle as an adult too. As a child actor, he has done films such as Sir, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (both 1993), Raja Hindustani (1996), Zakhm (1998), and as an adult, he debuted in 2005’s Kalyug. So, it won’t be wrong to say that he has really come a long way.
While he has proven his skills in comic roles through hit films such as Golmaal Again (2017), Go Goa Gone (2013) and Dhol (2007), he underwent a reinvention of sorts vis-à-vis playing a grey shade in his latest release, Kalank. Probe him about his criterion for choosing a film and he says, “At some point,
I used to think that script is the only important element. [But] I have learnt better now. Sometimes, you [need to] find a script not produced by a big banner necessarily, but [with a great] studio backing. You have to make sure that the film you have worked on gets a proper release, gets enough shows so that people [all over] get to watch it,” says Kunal.
Elaborating more, he says, “Many times, films get made, are promoted well, but in terms of timings, it gets only two shows. I have realised that it’s important to not work with just big banners (but have) a studio involved, a producer who will ensure that the film sees the light of the day, and it gets a better release. The script is kind of the top three things. If there isn’t a good script, it won’t work. Also, you have to make sure that it’s a known director.”
Kunal’s role in Kalank received praise, but what was his wife, actor Soha Ali Khan’s reaction? “Unfortunately, we saw it at different times. I got one reaction on the phone, and another when I met her. Thankfully, both were positive,” he laughs.
Priya Prakash Varrier became an overnight sensation after she winked her way into everyone’s hearts, but little did she anticipate that she’ll soon be romantically linked with her co-star — from that same viral video — Roshan Abdul Raoof. However, if rumour mills were to be true the two have, indeed, taken their on-screen romance offscreen. After their big screen debut with the Malayalam film, Oru Adaar Love, the duo’s social media banter, including Priya’s birthday wish for Roshan on April 23: “I want you to know how much you mean to me” has only added more fuel to the rumours.
When we caught up with her to ask what really is going on, Priya first tried to duck the question with a laugh. When we prodded further, she finally shared, “I would let the rumours be. There is nothing more that I can say. [Roshan] is a dear friend and we share a good rapport. That’s about it.”
When asked if she would like to work with Roshan once again, and she quickly said, “Definitely, why not? He is an amazing actor and a very good dancer. I think we complement each other on screen. The bond that we share otherwise will also help us to perform better on screen.” So when would we get to see them working together next? “Hopefully soon,” shared Priya.
Meanwhile, Priya will be seen next making her Bollywood debut with Sridevi Bungalow, and a trilingual film (Hindi, Malayalam and
Telugu) Love Hackers.
Priya has already shot for Sridevi Bungalow and is now busy with Love Hackers, which deals with the subject of cybercrime. “I play a girl who gets trapped in the darker side of the cyber world,” Priya ends.
