JUSTICE KABIR TAKES OVER AS CJI
NEW DELHI: Justice Altamas Kabir (64) was on Saturday sworn-in as the 39th Chief Justice of India (CJI) by President Pranab Mukherjee in the Ashoka Hall of the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
He took over the post from justice Sarosh Homi Kapadia, who served as the CJI for nearly two-and-a-half years.
Justice Kabir was appointed Supreme Court judge on September 9, 2005. He has delivered several landmark judgements, including on human rights and election laws. He will hold the office of the CJI for nine months, till July 18, 2013. >>
