Pitripaksh mela begins in Gaya
GAYA: The 17-day mega event of Pitripaksh mela was formally inaugurated on Saturday by urban development minister and local MLA, Prem Kumar at Vishnupad situated on the banks of Falgu river.
Swami Raghuver Acharya while speaking on the occasion described Gaya as one of the most sacred of 3.5 crore places of pilgrimages in the world and requested Gayaites and pilgrims also not to dump filth and garbage into the river because Lord Vishnu himself flows through Falgu in the form of water. He also emphasised the need of conservating the river keeping in view of the sanctity of Falgu.
He said on the October 9 Suresh Narayan would offer pinddaan for the salvation of the soul of personalities like Shakil Ahmad Khan, Rajesh Kumar, A K Hangal, Dara Singh and also Satnam Singh Mann of Sherghati who was killed in Kerala in police custody.
Meanwhile an unruly scene was witnessed when members of both district board and Gaya muncipal corporation squatted on the ground just in front of the dais in protest against being ignored by the district administration on the occasion.
Talking to mediapersons, these members said the invitation card did not even carry the name the mayor and the deputy mayor, causing widespread resentment among them. They were angry at not being given seat on the dais.
Those who were present on the dais, included food and consumer protection minister, Shyam Rajak, who was also the chief guest on the occasion, Gaya MP, Hari Manjhi, Bodh Gaya MLA, Shyamdeo Paswan, Barachatti MLA Jyoti Devi, Gurua MLA Izhar Ahmad. Speaker Udai Narahmad Chaudhary turned up late at the function. The function was conducted by the district public relations officer (DPRO), Dhiraj Narain Sudhanshu.
