Pitri­paksh mela be­gins in Gaya

GAYA: The 17-day mega event of Pitri­paksh mela was for­mally in­au­gu­rated on Satur­day by ur­ban de­vel­op­ment min­is­ter and lo­cal MLA, Prem Ku­mar at Vish­nu­pad sit­u­ated on the banks of Falgu river.

Swami Raghu­ver Acharya while speak­ing on the oc­ca­sion de­scribed Gaya as one of the most sa­cred of 3.5 crore places of pil­grim­ages in the world and re­quested Gayaites and pil­grims also not to dump filth and garbage into the river be­cause Lord Vishnu him­self flows through Falgu in the form of wa­ter. He also em­pha­sised the need of con­ser­vat­ing the river keep­ing in view of the sanc­tity of Falgu.

He said on the Oc­to­ber 9 Suresh Narayan would of­fer pinddaan for the sal­va­tion of the soul of per­son­al­i­ties like Shakil Ah­mad Khan, Ra­jesh Ku­mar, A K Han­gal, Dara Singh and also Sat­nam Singh Mann of Sherghati who was killed in Ker­ala in po­lice cus­tody.

Mean­while an un­ruly scene was wit­nessed when mem­bers of both dis­trict board and Gaya mun­ci­pal cor­po­ra­tion squat­ted on the ground just in front of the dais in protest against be­ing ig­nored by the dis­trict ad­min­is­tra­tion on the oc­ca­sion.

Talk­ing to me­di­a­per­sons, these mem­bers said the in­vi­ta­tion card did not even carry the name the mayor and the deputy mayor, caus­ing wide­spread re­sent­ment among them. They were an­gry at not be­ing given seat on the dais.

Those who were present on the dais, in­cluded food and con­sumer pro­tec­tion min­is­ter, Shyam Ra­jak, who was also the chief guest on the oc­ca­sion, Gaya MP, Hari Man­jhi, Bodh Gaya MLA, Shyamdeo Paswan, Barachatti MLA Jy­oti Devi, Gu­rua MLA Izhar Ah­mad. Speaker Udai Narah­mad Chaud­hary turned up late at the func­tion. The func­tion was con­ducted by the dis­trict pub­lic re­la­tions of­fi­cer (DPRO), Dhi­raj Narain Sud­han­shu.
