MUM­BAI: A day af­ter NCP chief Sharad Pawar’s nod, deputy chief min­is­ter Ajit Pawar’s res­ig­na­tion was ac­cepted by Ma­ha­rash­tra gover­nor K Sankara­narayanan on Satur­day.

“Fol­low­ing my meet­ing with Sharad Pawar, Ajit Pawar and NCP leader Pra­ful Pa­tel on Fri­day, I took Ajit Pawar’s res­ig­na­tion to the gover­nor, who has ac­cepted it,” said chief min­is­ter Prithvi­raj Cha­van.

Ajit Pawar had re­signed on Septem­ber 25 fol­low­ing al­le­ga­tions of ir­reg­u­lar­i­ties in sev­eral ir­ri­ga­tion projects in the state. The two port­fo­lios held by him have been dis­trib­uted as well. The charge of fi­nance and plan­ning depart­ment has been al­lot­ted to Jayant Patil, min­is­ter for ru­ral de­vel­op­ment. The en­ergy depart­ment has gone to Ra­jesh Tope, min­is­ter for higher and tech­ni­cal ed­u­ca­tion.
