INITIATION: In 1988, when Burma was in the middle of political upheaval, Suu Kyi was in Rangoon to visit her mother. The daughter of the country’s independence hero, General Aung San said she couldn’t remain “indifferent”. WHY WE CARE: This lady has been fighting hard to bring democracy to military-ruled Burma, a country of strategic importance to India.
