I wasn’t dying to do a web series: Gulshan
Gulshan Devaiah is excited about his digital debut, with Smoke, a web series. The actor was surprised at being offered a role “unlike any other” he has done before.
He says, “I am a South Indian but I play a Bihari gangster in the show. The fact that they cast me for this role was a surprise but it showed that they [the makers] had faith in my acting abilities. It boosted my morale and helped me do a good job. I hope I have lived up to their expectations. Some can get pressurised by expectations but as I am process-oriented, I had fun playing the role.”
The actor has starred in many films including Shaitan (2011), Hate Story (2012), Hunterrr (2015) and A Death The Gunj (2016). He says he doesn’t enjoy doing easy role as there is no fun in them. “I life, if I want to have a reputation as an actor, I wan people to think, ‘Gulshan Devaiah only does difficult roles’. I wouldn’t mind that
Gulshan says the maker didn’t cut corners to stick t the budget of the show, as digital shows are a comple different business module à-vis films.
He says, “I wasn’t dying t first love and I want to focus on my film career. I love the film format, but this series not only had a great cast but also a good technical crew. At times, when certain projects come along, you feel a compulsion to do them. I got the feeling this show will be good for me in more ways than one. The concept of the show seemed like a great idea and the story was fabulous too.”
