Sanjay Kapoor tells daughter to focus on hard work, rest is destiny
Looks like this is the time when the next generation will replace their Bollywood celebrity parents as the lead in films.
Actor Janhvi Kapoor (daughter of late actor Sridevi and producer Boney Kapoor) made her debut in July with Dhadak; Sara Ali Khan (daughter of actors Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh) will be making her debut next month with Kedarnath. There are other star kids preparing for their big break, including Shanaya Kapoor (daughter of actor Sanjay Kapoor).
So, when we recently caught up with daddy Kapoor, Sanjay told us, “Shanaya is working towards her debut. She is only 18, and just because she is from the Kapoor family, everyone is finding it interesting, but she is still very young. Also, to make a debut in films is not easy. The only thing that I tell her is to work hard, rest is all talent and destiny. Family is here to help, but once she is in front of the camera, she will have to take charge.”
And added, “Today, people know Shanaya without her having done any work, thanks to social media. It does get too close to be comfortable and is an intrusion of privacy. At times, it can be unnerving for a little girl... She is 18 and does what any 18-year-old girl does. But, she knows that you can’t take all the attention too seriously.”
Meanwhil e, Sanjay is himself gearing up for the release of his upcoming film, Bedhab, in which he has a double role. “This is the second film where I am playing a double role (after Chhupa Rustam; 2001), however, the role is absolutely new,” said Kapoor, who has also won accolades for his role in the TV show Dil Sambhal Jaa Zara. “My career, right now, is a combination of the success of TV and digital medium (Lust Stories, anthology of short films). The response I got for my TV show was overwhelming, ” added Sanjay, who feels fortunate to get a second chance.
“I did films such as Raja (1995), Zameer (2005) and Chhupa Rustam... But sometimes destiny has other plans. Raja was a blockbuster but I didn’t get enough credit for it and I still don’t know why. It is all part of the game,” he said.
