No new music in Bollywood: Juggy D

Singer-songwriter Juggy D is glad that “non-film music” is making a comeback in the popular space, but is also quick to warn people to not get “too excited” by it. He feels independent music is popular as there is no good music in Bollywood.

“If you listen to the music coming out of the film scene right now, you will realise that there is no new music anymore. Everything is getting recreated these days. So people are getting bored of that, and that’s why they are listening to independent music,” he says.

“And it’s like fashion you know. It’s in fashion that people listen to non-film music these days. Like it was a fashion to listen to this kind of music in ’90s, it has come back and people like listening to it again, as everyone else is doing the same,” he says.

The 36-year-old feels while pursuing a career in independent music is great, there is “nothing wrong” in pursuing music for films. “It’s actually great that so many people can sort of make their career in independent music. Having said that, it is equally great if you are composing music for films. You get massive exposure, and you can reach [places]. You won’t be able to do that as an independent musician. So there is nothing wrong, or bad about writing music for films,” he says.

It was a fashion to listen to this kind of [independent] music in ’90s, it has come back and people like listening to it again.
