Fame no shield against California wildfire
Celebrities whose homes have been damaged or destroyed in a Southern California wildfire — it has so far killed 29 people — or those who were forced to flee the flames have expressed their sympathy and solidarity with less famous people.
“Returned to my house in Malibu after evacuating,” posted Gerard Butler on Instagram, with a photo that showed a gutted structure and a badly scorched vehicle. “Heartbreaking time across California. Inspired as ever by the courage, spirit and sacrifice of firefighters,” said the Den of Thieves actor.
Singer Robin Thicke’s Malibu home burned down entirely, according to his representative. The 41-yearold singer said on Instagram that he, his girlfriend and his two kids are “surrounded by friends and family” and were thankful to firefighters. “As we drove to safety, they risked their lives trying to save our home,” said Thicke.
Actor Charlie Sheen’s father, actor Martin Sheen, and mother Janet were found by a news crew after Charlie reported them missing via Twitter. When found, Martin said that he and his wife were “probably going to sleep in the car tonight”.
TV personality Caitlyn Jenner was among the lucky ones, learning Sunday that her house was spared. “Yay, our house made it!” she posted on Instagram, and then showed the bare, blackened landscape around the house. “It was devastating out here in Malibu,” she said.
