After carving a niche for herself in the theatre space, dabbling in films and web shows, actor Aahana S Kumra now wants to try her hands at writing and production. In fact, she has already written a show and is waiting for it to be sanctioned by an OTT platform.

“I am already floating the script around, and waiting for reverts from creators and platforms. We have been getting a lot of positive feedback so far. I hope my show gets made this year,” says Kumra, who is also in the process of writing a script for a feature film.

Going forward, she plans on donning the hat of a director as well. She shares, “Direction might be somewhere on the cards. I feel that you’ve to be very skilled to be a director. It’s not an easy job, and not everyone’s cup of tea.”

The 37-year-old believes direction requires a lot of experience, and she wouldn’t want to rush into it. “I often see people becoming directors just for the sake of it... There are many directors who are technically sound, but don’t do their homework; don’t work hard enough or don’t have the skill set,” she elaborates.

The Forbidden Love and Call My Agent Bollywood actor adds, “I have had actors around me who ask questions to directors, but they’ve no answers. Sometimes, they don’t understand what an actor is thinking.”

On the acting front, Kumra’s last theatrical release was The Accidental Prime Minister (2019). Talking about staying away from the big screen for three years, she says, “It doesn’t affect me. I think this is something that a big star would be bothered by, as they’re used to their films releasing in theatres and getting big box office numbers.”
