MEERUT: Defying the police’s theory that Abdul Hakim, the victim in the Bulandshahr honour killing case, was murdered due to a personal enmity, one of the accused has claimed that Abdul was killed over a tussle for Mehwish, Abdul’s widow.

In his statement Malik distanced himself from the murder and said he was only present at the hotel where Salman plotted the murder of Abdul along with Javed and Afzal.

Bulandshahr police have repeatedly claimed that Abdul was killed due to some personal animosity and it was not a case of ‘honour killing’. Meanwhile, police have denied having knowledge of any such statement given by Malik. “I am not aware about any such statement”, said Rakesh Kumar, SHO of Bulandshahar Kotwali Dehat.
