Select candidates who can deliver: State minority panel
JSMC, ECI urge members to create awareness about voting rights
RANCHI: The Jharkhand State Minority Commission (JSMC) has joined hands with the Election Commission of India (ECI), political parties and social organisations in urging voters to exercise their franchise freely.
The commission is also urging its members to spread awareness about the importance of casting votes in electing people-friendly representatives.
Urging the voters to turn up at booths, the commission in its message is saying that every vote counts and thus, is, of great value. By exercising the democratic right, one can elect a representative of his/her choice.
However, one should be guarded in the selection of representatives and should not succumb to the lure of money and considerations of caste, creed or religion, the commission warned.
These two factors are often played to the hilt by contestants and parties, the commission said during its voter awareness campaign message.
“We should refrain from these vices while zeroing on in the selection of candidates who would work and deliver for national and public interest,” a commission member said.
The message also reminded voters that the opportunity to vote comes once in five years and a wrong choice on the part of people can take them five years back. Therefore, discretion is required before exercising the franchise, the commission appealed.
