VARANASI: The BJP on Friday warned Congress to desist from “dirty politics” and stop peeping into the personal life of Narendra Modi as it too had “well-documented evidence” on the private lives of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

Stopping short of a threat to expose the Congress “secrets”, senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the BJP did believe in peeping into the private lives of its political opponents.

“We also have documentary evidence about the private lives of Nehru-Gandhi family. But BJP never used them as a tool to attack Congress,” Prasad answered to a query on Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s comment on Narendra Modi’s marital status.

Gandhi’s critical comment came after Modi, for the first time, declared himself as a married man in his affidavit filed before the Election Commission while filing nomination for the Vadodara

Lok Sabha seat. Earlier, Modi never used his wife Jashodaben’s name in poll affidavits.

Commenting on Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh’s remark on Modi’s personal life, Prasad reiterated, “We are well informed about the private lives of Rajiv and Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi but never used this information for political vendetta.”

Prasad also expressed “satisfaction” over Congress’ praise for former prime minister Atal Behari Vaypayee and his policies.

“It took the Congress more than 60 years to accept Sardar Patel as their leader. But we are pleased to know that the Congress acknowledged Vajpayeeji’s good governance too early,” Prasad said.
