RANCHI: The Jharkhand High Court on Monday asked director general of police (DGP) to appear in person on October 6 to explain why Jamshedpur police failed to submit appropriate reply in a criminal case despite repeated orders.

The matter relates to the criminal writ petition filed by Sunil Lulla, managing director of Indian motion picture production and distribution company, Eros International.

Lulla had challenged the lower court’s order, which had taken cognizance of a criminal complaint lodged by a Jamshedpur resident Somjit Mallick.

Mallick alleged that the company had given him distribution of three motion films against which he had paid Rs 7 lakh but later, the company withdrew its decision but didn’t return the amount. He claimed three people of the company had also threatened him for demanding his money back. ARREST WARRANT AGAINST PETITIONER

The Jharkhand High Court on Monday issued bailable arrest warrant against Ashim Kumar Samanta who didn’t pay Rs 50,000 fine for filing a frivolous PIL seeking CBI probe into the bungling committed in Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination, 2011, for admission in state medical colleges.

The HC in 2014 dismissed the PIL and slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 on Samanta asking him to deposit it with JHALSA.
