JAMSHEDPUR: Tej Pratap Singh, accused of shooting dead BJP leader Chhotu Pandit here on October 29, surrendered at Mango police station on Wednesday.

Police were attaching his property at his residence in the morning and stopped proceedings after his surrender. With this, all the five accused, including main accused Vikas Tiwari, have surrendered.

“Tej Pratap surrendered at Mango police station today after which we stopped attachment proceedings at his Mango residence,” said Chandan Jha, city superintendent of police. All the accused have been sent to judicial custody.

Vikas Tiwari, the main accused who had allegedly masterminded the murder and shot Chhotu, surrendered at Mango police station on Tuesday. Another accused Ved Prakash had surrendered in the court of judicial magistrate Vishal Gaurav on Tuesday. Two more accused Chandan Singh and Mohan Singh surrendered in court on October 31.

“Vikas has confessed to killing Chhotu Pandit due to personal disputes. He also admitted to have shot Chhotu after calling him to Daigutu Kali temple,” Anup T Matthew, senior superintendent of police said.

Sources claimed Vikas had actually surrendered at the SSP’s residence after which he was interrogated at Sonari police station. “Later, he was brought to Mango police station,” sources said. After shooting Chhotu, Vikas fled from the site on an auto and was hiding in Jugsalai in the city.

Police sources said he decided to surrender as he was running out of money and he read the news that police had got property attachment warrants against him and Tej Pratap. He also told the police that Mohan Singh was involved in the conspiracy to kill Chhotu but Chandan had nothing to do with it.
