BENGALURU: Online professional networking platform LinkedIn on Wednesday announced the launch of LinkedIn Placements, an online campus recruitment product, only for the Indian market.

The new platform, developed wholly in India, allows fresh graduates, recruiters and placement cells in colleges to interact with each other online right from the end of the academic programme to placements.

The new product, which will be piloted immediately, is primarily meant as a value-added service to the community members in the professional network, said Ganesh Venkatasubramanian, LinkedIn India’s head of engineering. There were no immediate plans to monetise this either in India or globally, he added.

THE NEW PLATFORM ALLOWS FRESH GRADUATES, RECRUITERS AND PLACEMENT CELLS IN COLLEGES TO INTERACT ONLINE

The first phase of the launch will involve about 15 colleges and a possible networking of 10-15,000 graduates. The company did not share any details on plans to scale up the usage of this product after the pilot.

LinkedIn, which has around 400 million users globally, considers India, with 33-million users, its largest user-base outside the US.

LinkedIn will target around 6 million students who graduate every year in India with the new product.
