JR SHOOTERS WIN 5 MEDALS IN KUWAIT MEET

KUWAIT CITY: Junior shooters have excelled where some of the seasoned pro from Indian shooting contingent failed.

Juniors have won five medals, including a gold at the 13th Asian Shooting Championsh­ip. Indian team comprising of Prachi Gadkari, Gayatri Pawaskar and Aashi Rastogi bagged the team gold in 10m air rifle women’s youth category with a combined total of 1226.8. In the 10m air rifle junior women’s competitio­n Mampi Das and Shriyanka Sadangi won the team silver with a combined total of 1228. In the 50m free pistol Junior men, Sumedh Kumar bagged an individual bronze medal and then combined with Arjun Das and Suraj Bhambani to grab the team silver with a total score of 1613. KUWAIT TERMINATES AGREEMENT KUWAIT CITY: Kuwait’s government has decided to terminate its agreement with the Olympic Council of Asia. Kuwait’s staterun KUNA news agency reported the government’s decision, saying it came during a Cabinet meeting Monday. KUNA quoted Minster of Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammed Al Sabah as saying the decision came after the Internatio­nal Olympic Committee suspended Kuwait for political interferen­ce last week. JUDO CHIEF REFUSES TO STEP DOWN NEW DELHI: Judo Federation of India (JFI) president Mukesh Kumar has refused to step down despite the government’s directive, saying that his election to the top post did not violate the tenure guidelines of the Sports Code. In a letter to the Sports Ministry, Kumar said that the cooling-off period was not applicable to secretary/treasurer.
