RANCHI: The state government would recruit language teachers for 1,002 high schools, sources in the education department told Hindustan Times on Saturday.

The state government’’s decision to upgrade 1,002 middle schools to high schools necessitated the recruitment of teachers, sources said.

The teachers would be recruited for five tribal languages: Santhali, Oraon, Ho, Kurukh, Mundari and Kharia and four regional languages Nagpuri, Pancvhpargania, Khortha, Kurmali, Bengali, Urdu and Odiya.

The t eachers for Hindi, Sanskrit, English and Persian would also be recruited, sources said, adding the government sanctioned four posts of language teachers for each of these schools and the Staff Selection Commission would be asked to initiate the recruitment process.

The government had proposed the names of 1,015 schools for upgrading under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhiyan (RMSA).

However, the project approval board (PAB) after a meeting with education officials in July last year, had allowed 1,002 schools to be upgraded, sources further said.

According to a report prepared by PAB, out of 1,000 upgraded schools, 799 were functional.

The report said 76% of the posts of teachers in the state were lying vacant and no training was imparted to teachers and headmasters.
