JAMSHEDPUR: Narrowing gender gap in employment will increase global income per person by as much as 20% by 2030 which is crucial because women taking up more entrepreneurial roles would mean that the benefits will go beyond the bottom line. This was the conclusion at the ‘Dialogue on Women Entrepreneurship’ by Young Indians (Yi) (Jharkjand Chapter) here at the Savak Nanavati Technical Institute (SNTI) on Sunday.

Yi org anised t he workshop as part of its Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), world’s largest celebration of innovators and job creators, who launch start-ups.

“Women business leaders inspire other women to pursue their dreams. Women entrepreneurs create new jobs for themselves and others. Women entrepreneurship has been recognised as an important source of economic growth,” said Ruchi Narendran, wife of Tata Steel MD and chief guest at the GEW.

Vishal Aggarwalla, chairman of Yi Jharkhand chapter, said, “Women entrepreneurship can make a particularly strong contribution to the economic well-being of the family and communities, poverty reduction and women empowerment, thus contributing to the overall development of the nation.”

“Even though female entrepreneurship and the formation of women business networks is steadily rising, there are a number of challenges and obstacles that female entrepreneurs face. One major challenge that many women entrepreneurs face is the traditional gender-roles society may still have on women,” said Dr (Capt.) Chandrashekhar Madhusudan Chitale, professor at Pune University.

Sonia Topiwala , CEO at Fairtrade Agencies, said the new generation of women across the world have proved themselves beyond doubt in all spheres of life. Manjari Sharma, director of D’asign Source, highlighted how women entrepreneurs are key players in any developing country.
