Two minors raped; uncle held
RANCHI: Cases of the rape of two minor girls, one aged 10 and the other 12, surfaced in the state on Saturday night after the victims told their parents about their ordeal.
The 10- year-old girl in Ranchi’s Kudarko village was allegedly raped by her uncle on November 10 in the presence of her 5-year-old sister, police said. At that time, her parents had gone to the village market, said police. Police said the other girl was allegedly raped by a youth in Giridhi’s Bhalak village on November 20.
Ranchi rural superintendent of police Rajkumar Lakra said the uncle was arrested within an hour after the FIR was lodged with the Bero police station on Saturday. He said Nuvas Khalko, 40, was arrested from his house in Kudarko.
Parents informed the Bero police that they came to know about the crime from the victim’s sister. The police have sent the girl for treatment to Ranchi Sadar Hospital.
According to the first information report, the two sisters were alone at home when Nuvas barged into the house in a drunken state. Taking advantage of parents’ absence, Nuvas committed the crime, said police.
The Giridih police have launched a man-hunt for Prem Yadav for the alleged rape of a minor girl in Bhalak village.
Police said the victim informed her parents a day later fearing social stigma.
The girl told police that Yadav committed the crime when she was returning home with her friend on Friday evening. A case has been lodged with the Bagodar police station and the girl has been sent for treatment to the Giridih Sadar Hospital.
These cases come close on the heels of alleged rape and murder of 9-year-old girl in East Singhbhum’s Upperbandha village and 12-year-old girl in Ranchi’s Chatakpur village earlier this week.
Until August this year, 905 rape cases and 1,261 kidnappings have been reported as compared to 792 and 996 cases respectively in the same period in 2014 in Jharkhand.
