Four women Maoists gunned down by forces

RAIPUR: Four women Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Nagalgunda forested hills, close to the Dantewada-Sukma border in south Chhattisga­rh, on Sunday. A camp of the outlawed left-wing extremists was also demolished during the encounter.

According to the Dantewada district police chief Kamal Lochan Kashyap, a joint team of special task force (STF) and specially trained District Reserve Guards (DRG) acted on a tip-off and launched a search operation on late Saturday night.

“During the early hours of Sunday, the forces traced a Maoist camp and swiftly swung into action by opening fire. The rebels were taken aback and in an encounter that continued for about half-an-hour four women Maoists were killed. The remaining fled into the nearby jungle”, the Dantewada SP told

Hindustan Times. There is no report of any injury sustained by the personnel of the armed forces.

The bodies of the four women rebels in uniform were recovered from the encounter site along with their weapons.

Kashyap said the police had definite inputs from their informers about ration being provided to the Maoist camp from nearby villages, where the Red brigade had also scheduled their meetings. This the third major encounter carried this month in the strife-torn Bastar zone. Maoists are present in at least 16 of Chhattisga­rh’s districts but are most active in south Chhattisga­rh’s Bastar.
