DHANBAD: Government school headmasters in Dhanbad are learning -how to use WhatsApp.

To share information and directives faster, the district education department had asked school heads to install the messaging application owned by Facebook and used by over one billion people worldwide.

“We must upgrade our system to smoothen our works and frequent communication with school management as it may improve our style of working,” said District education officer (DEO) Madhuri Kumari

“WhatsApp may be the easiest way to communicate with a large number of people.”

Adopting the technology will help the government swiftly pass on policy information to school heads in the remote corners. They could click and download government circulars or notices rather than wait for hard copies to reach the school.

The DEO, who recently downloaded WhatsApp on her phone, said she got the idea when she was directed to stay in touch with statelevel officials through the app.

“Sometimes, owing to network congestion or poor connectivity, we are unable to communicate or instruct headmasters on time, and even SMSs fail to reach. However, WhatsApp messages more or less reach on time,” she added.

“The entire country is inching towards digitalization,” said the DEO.
