Kejri promises stir against BJP’s ‘anti-backward’ policy
UNA (GUJARAT): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal took on the BJP in PM Narendra Modi’s home turf on Thursday, accusing the Centre of “being complicit” in the attack of Dalit youth in Una.
Lashing out against the BJP for its “anti-Dalit” position, Kejriwal, who arrived here a day after Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s visit, promised a nationwide campaign against the BJP’s “anti-backward” policies.
The one-roomed dwelling unit of Balubhahai Sarowya, father of two of the six Dalits publicly flogged by a Hindu vigilante group, has been getting a stream of visitors. Kejriwal was seen noting down his mobile and other contact numbers in the register arranged at his house.
“My information is that police batons were used by Hindu goons. The state administration, police and the vigilante groups – they are functioning as a team. Atrocities against Dalits, with the knowledge and even at the behest of the BJP government, are happening across Gujarat. But there’s no action. Perfunctory arrests are sometimes made but cases against the BJP goons are weakened and people are released in bail. This drama must end,” Kejriwal said, promising to fight unendingly to bring justice to the Samadhaliya Dalit victims.
After Gandhi and Kejriwal, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati and Union minister Ram Das Athawale are among those scheduled to visit the village.
