DHANBAD: Acute shortage of senior teachers in Patliputra Medical College Hospital (PMCH) and Mahatma Gandhi Medical College Hospital (MGMCH) has cast cloud over opening of five proposed medical colleges in the state.

According to Medical Council of India (MCI) reports, PMCH and MGMCH are reeling under deficiencies of 24 % and 18 % senior teachers, respectively.

Chief minister Raghubar Das last week announced to open five medical colleges in the current financial year.

He said three hospitals at Palamu, Hazaribagh and Dumka would be inaugurated on October 2 and dates for two others at Bokaro and Chaibasa would be announced later.

A PMCH professor, who did not wish to be identified, said: “The government did not find single teacher for PMCH, MGMCH and RIMS. From where, it will find senior teachers for new medical colleges.”

The state government has been regularly issuing advertisements for vacant posts of professors and assistant professors in the existing medical colleges since October 2014.

But not a single senior teacher from other states applied. Even retired teachers of the state’s medical colleges did not response.

Another professor said 100 MBBS seats of PMCH and MGMCH for 2016-17 sessions were still at stake as the state government had given undertaking to Medical Council of India in May to full up vacant posts in both the institutions by July 31.
