Boy killed in Jamshedpur wall collapse, rain to continue
JAMSHEDPUR: A nine-year-old boy was killed as the wall of his house in Jamshedpur town collapsed after heavy rainfall on Wednesday wee hours, forcing residents in low-lying areas to flee homes.
The boy was identified as Sahil Purty, the son of Ganesh Purty in Bagbera. He was rushed to a local hospital but could not be survived.
Dhalbhumgar sub-divisional officer Suraj Kumar, Bagbera police station officer-in-charge Jitendra Thakur and East Singhbhum zila parishad member Kishor Yadav visited the Purty’s family and provided financial help to him.
Water gushed into houses in Sonari, Kadma, Bagbera, Jugsalai, Mango, Baridih and Sakchi and those situated near drains after rain for more than 24 hours.
Special officer of Mango Notified Area committee (MNAC), Jagdish Prasad Yadav, said medical teams have been sent to prevent waterborne diseases after rainfall.
“The minor victim’s family members have been given compensation of `10,000. The family will get further government compensation within a couple of days,” Thakur said.
Jamshedpur recorded 238.8 mm rainfall during the last 24 hours and the meteorological department has warned of heavy rainfall on August 11 and 12.
Ratan Mahato from the Ranchi weather department office said low pressure has developed in north west in Way of Bengal area, around 100 kms from Kolkata. THREE PEOPLE KILLED IN LIGHTNING STRIKE Three people were killed in lightning strike in Palamu and Giridih districts on Wednesday, police said.
A 45-year-old Jalebi Yadav and a woman identified as Kaushalya Devi (55) and two others were working in a paddy field at Harihargunj in Palamau district when lightning struck them. Yadav and Kaushalya Devi died on the spot while the other were injured.
In another incident, a farmer was killed in lightning strike in Dondlo under Bagodar police station of Giridih district.
