Multinational company proposes to set up mining equipment manufacturing unit
RANCHI: Caterpillar Private Limited, a multinational company which holds expertise in designing mining equipment, proposed setting up of a mining equipment manufacturing unit in Adityapur, Jharkhand.
The proposal was made at the Jharkhand pavilion of MINExpo, 2016 in Las Vegas.
The team from Jharkhand left for a five-day tour to the USA on Sunday.
Caterpillar has been active in India since the 1930s. According to the company’s website, it manufactures 60 and 100-ton of highway trucks (OHT) in India for domestic and export markets. The company also introduced a 240-ton mining truck in India. OHTs are used only for mining purposes.
However, state officials in Jharkhand did not have details of the proposal. They said the nitty-gritty of the proposal could be known only after the team returns from the USA.
Chief minister Raghubar Das and his delegation on Tuesday met CEOs of three multinational mining companies in Las Vegas -- CEO of GE Mining Scott Phillips, CEO of Hollidaysburg Pennsylvania Sean McLanahan, and Rahul Jain, business head of Surface Mining & Technology of Caterpillar Pvt Ltd.
“MINExpo is a platform for Jharkhand to showcase its enormous potential to the national and international investment communities,” Das said in the USA, adding that, “The investors who come to Jharkhand will become long-term partners with the state in bringing development and industrial growth.”
After the expo, the team will visit San Francisco where the delegation is scheduled to visit Hewlett Packard Enterprise with which memoranda-of understanding-were recently signed in the areas of tele-education (virtual classrooms) and IT-enabled primary healthcare.
“So far, the government has held fruitful road shows in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai. During the road shows, the government signed some crucial agreements with global corporations like CISCO and Oracle to impart skills to prepare for the technology leveraged future,” said chief secretary Raj Bala Verma.
