Man killed for objecting to open defecation in Palamu

DALTONGANJ: Objecting to open defecation proved fatal to a man in Palamu district as he was beaten to death by his own brother and his family members. The police arrested two including the brother soon after the incident.

The tragic incident occurred at Shuk Bazar under the limits of Bishrampur Nagar Panchayat on Thursday. The place of occurrence is under the Rehla police station of Palamu district.

cating in open at an empty space lying between their separate homes. A brawl between both the sides ensued. It was then settled after few minutes. Incidental­ly, both the family had toilets in their homes.

However, a few hours later, Chhotu along with his family members attacked Manager Ram and beat him to death to avenge public shaming. “The deceased was beaten up and finally strangulat­ed by his family members,” said Palamu superinten­dent of police Indrajit Mahatha.

The police later registered case against Chhotu Ram and four others including a woman on the basis of a written statement by the deceased’s son Manoj Ram.

The SP said, “Chhotu Ram along with one Mahendra Kumar was arrested soon after the assault. A woman Bijali Devi (50), also a named accused has been sent to hospital for treatment in police custody.”
